Steinunn María Þormar began studying cello at the Music School in Reykjavík with Sigurður Bjarka Gunnarsson. After her basic exam, she went to the Music School in Reykjavík, where she continued her cello studies with Sigurgeir Agnarsson. Shortly after, she started attending singing lessons with Þórunna Guðmundsdóttir and since then Steinunn has studied singing alongside her cello studies. In 2020, she completed her advanced degree in both subjects and a year later she completed her leaving exam for both instruments. In the last three years, Steinunn has studied Bachelorn at the Iceland Academy of the Arts under the guidance of Hanna Dóra Sturludóttir, Dísella Lárusdóttir and Kristin Sigmundsson on vocals and Sigurgeir Agnarsson on cello.
