About the project

Iceland is a country of great natural hazards, where natural disasters are an integral part of the natural cycle of nature. Although these phenomena have shaped the country over the centuries, it raises concerns about how well the public is prepared for such conditions.

The Disaster Guide is a project that seeks to bridge this gap by making information about natural hazards more accessible, increasing preparedness and encouraging people to prepare better.

The project includes two tools:

The Avalanche Guide which communicates security tips graphically and accessible and The Disaster Bag which helps people remember necessities and personal values when situations call for a quick response.

The Disaster Guide

Iceland is a country shaped by natural hazards, an unavoidable part of the cycles of nature. Even though such events have formed the land over centuries, it is worrying how unpaired the public is for them.

The project The Disaster Guide aims to make information about natural hazards more accessible, encouraging better preparation, and getting people to think about how they can be more ready.

The project includes two tools:

The Avalanche-Handbook, a visually engaging and accessible handbook and the Disaster Bag, a custom-made emergency bag to help people remember both essentials and personal values when quick observation is needed.
