Katrín Karítas Viðarsdóttir
B.Mus.Ed. Classical vocal and instrumental instruction

Katrín Karítas started studying music at the Music School in Akureyri when she was five years old. There she practiced piano, violin and then viola, but the viola is her main instrument today. In the fall of 2021, she started studying at the Iceland Academy of the Arts in classical instrument teaching on viola under the guidance of Þórunn Óskar Marinósdóttir. After the freshman trip early in the first semester, Katrín saw how much music has to offer and therefore decided to also study at Creative Music Media, but she graduated from that course last spring. Since she could not say goodbye to classics, she decided to take an extra year and also complete the teacher training course and ends it with this concert.

Katrín has worked as a pre-school teacher at Reykjanesbær's Music School for the last two winters, as well as having organized and taught creative summer courses, together with her friend Svava Rún Steingrímsdóttir, as part of the festival Við Djúpið á Ísafjörður. The course focused on musical games, singing and methods of composing music and improvisation. The aim of the course was to promote children's musical knowledge and introduce them to new and fun aspects of music.

Katrín has also played in many orchestras such as the Korda Symphony, the Young Symphony, the Youth Orchestra of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and has played with the Northern Symphony Orchestra.
