Up, Up and Turn
An empowering workshop and study website for secondary schools
This final project discusses how creative workshops and education can empower young people to become aware and responsible consumers in a world where fast-paced, harmful substances in clothing and human rights violations are the order of the day.
The project discusses the impact of the textile industry on health, the environment and society, with a particular focus on clothing toxins, social responsibility and sustainability Based on a theoretical foundation on education for sustainability, transformative learning and artistic activism as a teaching method, where art creation is used to promote critical thinking and awareness-raising The project involves a qualitative study of the Upp Upp and Snú, where young people had the opportunity to create from used textiles and reflect on the impact of their consumption The methodology was based on participation, interviews and thematic analysis of the participants' experiences.
Results show that such education and a creative approach can increase youth awareness of sustainability, clothing toxins and social responsibility, as well as reduce feelings of helplessness and climate anxiety through empowering tools The project's product is a learning website that includes projects that support teaching sustainability and creative reuse The thesis highlights the importance of integrating critical education and arts into school work to promote active youth participation in the society of the future.
