The lecture series Context welcomes guitarist and composer Páll Ragnar Pálsson and singer and musicologist Tui Hirv on Friday, November 13th, with the lecture The Story Behind the Songs. They will talk about Layers, their album of sacred folk songs from Estonia, the Nordic countries and Britain, and shed light on the research behind it: how they approved the material and made it their own.
The event takes place in Crawl, Stakkahlíð 1 and is open to all.
Páll Ragnar Pálsson & Tui Hirv
Páll Ragnar Pálsson, guitarist and composer, and Tui Hirv, singer and musicologist, grew up in different worlds, he in the Icelandic rock scene with all the freedom and playfulness that came with it, and she in Estonia's strictly academic school system and choral culture. Their paths crossed in the Tallinn Music Academy and since then have worked together on artistic practice, where Tui has performed Pál's compositions both here and abroad.
Páll Ragnar and Tui also work together as a duo where they either perform popular songs, religious - or folk songs. Their different backgrounds and approaches to the music create a new soundscape.
