The lecture series Context invites the harmonica player Jónas Ásgeir Ásgeirsson welcome to Friday, November 6 with the message Development of new works for classical harmonica. In a few decades, the classical harmonica has created a place for itself within the main music universities of Europe, and many of the leading composers of our time have written works for the instrument. Jónas Ásgeir will review the diverse possibilities of the instrument and his career in the development of new works in collaboration with Icelandic and foreign composers.

The event is in Dynjanda, the hall of the Music Department and is open to everyone.

The lecture series Context welcomes accordist Jónas Ásgeir Ásgeirsson on Friday, November 6th, with the lecture Developing New Works for the Classical Accordion. In just a few decades, the classical accordion has established itself at Europe's leading music conservatories, and many of today's foremost composers have written for the instrument. Jónas Ásgeir will explore the instrument's wide range of potential and his process of developing new works in consultation with Icelandic and international composers.

The event takes place in Dynjandi, the Music Department's hall, and is open to all.

Jonas Ásgeir Ásgeirsson 

Jonas Ásgeir Ásgeirsson is a classical harmonica player living in Copenhagen where he completed his master's and soloist studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Jonas was chosen performer of the year and won the award for album of the year at the Icelandic Music Awards 2023 in the category of classical and contemporary music. Also performed Jonas the first Icelandic accordion concerto with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and later performed two concertos with the orchestra on Myrkum músíkdáði 2024. He has performed as a soloist together with Athelas Sinfonietta, Caput Ensemble, the chamber ensemble Elja and BIT20 ensemble. A performance of a new harmonic concerto from Bára Gísladóttir's workshop together with Århus Sinfonietta is also currently working on a new solo album at the publishing company Sono Luminus.
