The annual conference Iceland University of the Arts, Hugarflug took place in the school premises in Stakkahlíð 1 on September 9 - 11 and this time was entitled Sensing the world.
Hugarflug has established itself as an important forum for creative and critical discussion about research in the arts, art education, architecture and design, in which the conference was held fifteenth time this year.
Key speakers this time were them Mette Edvardsen, stage artist, choreographer and doctoral candidate in arts at the University of the Arts in Oslo and Hildur Hákonardóttir, an artist and writer who has taken on contemporary issues in her long career at any given time, not least in environmental and equality issues.
Mette discussed her approach to performance, the role of language and text in her work, and how important part of the audience's perceptions and experiences lies in their imagination and memories.
The title of the conference focused on the world of perception, how we relate to our own perception and the world around us. The record number of applications was received by the Hugarflug committee this year, but about 40 foreign participants from around the world, talks related to the theme were given at the conference Participation has never been so high, and this year there were about 280 visitors who attended Hugarflug, the most crowded conference to date.
