Employee research; teaching innovation, developing a work theory and growing in the work of teachers
The project is an employee study of teaching innovation at Vallaskóli in Selfoss during the school year 2023 -2024. The aim of the study was to develop a work theory for teaching innovation and to strengthen my professionalism as a teacher.
The project is about innovation teaching in a so-called makerspace, where emphasis is placed on student-centered learning with an empowering pedagogy based on it. The researcher prepared a workshop in the spirit of designers and carried out research in lessons by keeping a research diary, taking pictures, doing field observations and recording comments from conversations with students.
The results of the study suggest that through servant leadership, interest-driven and student-centered teaching methods, there is a great benefit for both students and teachers The impact on school work is positive and leads to increased independence, activity and a solution-oriented mindset in students The goal is to grow in the work of teachers and adopt teaching methods that can not only increase students' interest in learning but contribute to truly educational learning and have a profound meaning for the existence of individuals.
Theories and concepts of scholars in the fields of philosophy, pedagogy and psychology are the theoretical background of the study, although more widely established, Employee research as a form of research compared to design thinking regarding the methodology of the research that revolves around the field; the author's search to establish himself in the role of the teacher and the teaching of the subject In a discussion section, my experience of the process is presented in the context of the theoretical background of the study, and finally, a work theory is presented in the form of a policy statement that states basic values, methods are explained and conclusions are drawn.
