Bryndís Ásta Magnúsdóttir (b. 2003) started learning the cello at the age of six, but started her singing career upon returning from living in Sweden, where she grew up. At the age of fifteen, she began to study classical singing under the guidance of Guðrún Jóhanna Jónsdóttir, Guðrún Dalía Salómonsdóttir and Þóra Björnsdóttir at Garðabær's Music School, and completed her advanced degree from there.

The trigger for Bryndís Ástu's singing studies was an interest in better technique and skills within pop, jazz and gospel singing. Over time, however, the interest in the classics increased and she worked on these different styles in parallel. She worked singing at parties and events, a lot in the trio Garðasisterur, but also as a soloist.

Lately, the classics have taken over entirely, and Bryndís enjoys researching that deep, diverse and expressive scene Instead, she now plays jazz on the cello.

Bryndís Ásta started studying at the Iceland Academy of the Arts in the fall of 2022 with Hanna Dóra Sturludóttir, Kristni Sigmundsson, Dísella Lárusdóttir, Kolbeini Ketilsson and Matthilda Anna Gísladóttir. Last fall, she went on an exchange program at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and studied there with Åsa Bäverstam and Magnus Svensson. In the spring of 2024, Bryndís Ásta won third prize in the university category of the singing competition Vox Domini.

During her schooling, she has taken the stage in all kinds of roles. Examples include Adele in Johann II Strauss's Bat, Alcina in Francesca Caccini's La Liberazione di Ruggiero d'all isola di Alcina as well as Papagena and Pamina from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Magic Flute. Bryndís Ásta has also performed two poetry series by Robert Schumann, Dichterliebe and Frauen-liebe und leben in her studies. In the spring of 2025, she took the stage at Kristján's sponsored concert, Bel Canto, in IÐNÓ together with Dísella Lárusdóttir, Gissuri Pál Gissurarson and Kristján Jóhannsson.

Along with her studies, Bryndís Ásta has founded and organized the annual Räkkvan town and art festival and sung in Áskirkja's Choir. She was chosen to be Garðabær's Mountain Woman in 2023.
