ARCHITECTURAL STRATEGIES FOR POST-RELAPSE SUPPORT IN ADDICTION RECOVERY
Drug and alcohol addiction has become an increasing concern in Iceland, with studies indicating a steady rise in cases. This issue Icelandic society, contributing to social and economic challenges. This thesis prophecies a new model for post-treatment addiction rehabilitation in Iceland, which addresses critical gaps in the current recovery system.
While the national treatment pathway begins with detoxification at Vogur Hospital, followed by rehabilitation at the SÁÁ center, many patients experience repeated releases due to the limited program diversity and an institutional design that mirrors hospital environment. As a result, several patients live in an environment that is unwelcoming and characterized by social judgement.
This thesis guesses design a non-medical, therapeutic rehabilitation center created to support individuals after relapse.
