Department of Performing Arts Iceland University of the Arts sincerely thanks all guests and participants for coming to the Praxis Performing Arts Congress on Saturday, September 19.

Praxis' theme this year was, The Actor and the Role, where the focus was on different acting interpretation methods and the actor's work within the performing arts.

The professional forum and the university community filled the building and it turned out to be a great day full of inspiring conversations, ideas and talks.

The actress and associate professor at RESAD, Sol Garre, delivered the talk „What does an actor actually “know” when he acts?“.

There she discussed the acquisition of artistic knowledge and how the training of actors shapes the body, imagination, perception and creative working methods of the performer.

Björn Thors, an actor who discussed her experience working on solo games, and Halldóra Geirhardsdóttir, an actress and former professor at Department of Performing Arts, also spoke about how an actor deals with the repetition on stage.

The day ended with a seminar on play interpretation methods where the participants discussed the methods, tools, work and work processes they use in their work. It was also discussed which professional conversation takes place within the professional community and whether actors have a common language. The participants were actors Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir, Oddur Júlíusson, Sólveig Arnarsdóttir and Stefán Jónsson. The discussions were led by actor Agnar Jón Egilsson, associate professor and director of the acting program at LHÍ.

We are immediately looking forward to the next performing arts congress of the department!
