Saturday, September 26 at At 15:00 the exhibition Berlindar Jóna Hlynsdóttir opens 1/3 singing entertainment, sewing, fluff and washing instructions at the Art Museum in Akureyri.
Berglind Jóna Hlynsdóttir (b. 1979) completed her BA in art from Iceland University of the Arts 2006 and her MA from Valand University of the Arts in Sweden 2010. She is currently doing postgraduate studies in art research within the collaborative project Iceland University of the Arts, the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Iceland and the Icelandic Museum of Art. Her exhibition at the Art Museum in Akureyri is held in connection with the milestone in the research project.
Berglind has participated in group exhibitions and collaborative projects around the world and also held quite a few solo exhibitions She has developed a method of artistic practice that involves highlighting specific, hidden aspects of phenomena, such as places, buildings and objects. It involves thinking of works of art and research as vacuum cleaners that suck up and shape what she calls contrast material. In this work, she creates a contrast-based vacuum cleaner using the artwork Song Entertainment by Þorvald Þorsteinsson (1998); collects fragments, plot points and micro-stories from its production, as well as remains and traces accumulated from its travels and storage. It is in a fraction of an off-event moment that she did not experience that Berglind begins to collect the material that resides in the shadow of this artwork.
