The lecture series Context welcomes Guðmund Stein Gunnarsson Friday, October 9 with the lecture Reflections on habit formation in music where Guðmundur Steinn will discuss his compositional methods and ideas in general. Microtones, sounds, their translationality, tolerance limits and thresholds will be among the topics discussed, how noise can take on patterns and become up to meaningful. How patterns can dance on the border between meaninglessness and intelligibility at the same time. Motion notes and communication patterns for flowing rhythm will also be on the agenda. The repetition and exception, habit formations and perception of its shape hairy and obscure, beauty in rough and everyday objects

The event is in Dynjanda, the hall of the Music Department and is open to everyone.

The lecture series Context welcomes Guðmundur Steinn Gunnarsson on Friday, October 9, with the lecture Contemplations on habit forms in music.

Guðmundur Steinn will discuss his compositional methods and wide ideas about music: microtones, thresholds and tolerance, and how noise can take on pattern and become almost meaningful. He will also touch on movement-based notation, repetition and exception, and the beauty of the rough and the everyday.

The event takes place in Dynjandi, the Music Department's hall, and is open to all.

As a student at LHÍ at the beginning of this century received Guðmundur Steinn Gunnarsson ideas of works he had no idea how to note Nothing seemed to fit into the box-shaped presentation of a Western musical composition. Getting to know people who later became part of the SLÁ.TUR group opened up new ways with movement music writing that Guðmundur has used for the past 20 years. During that time he has composed over 250 works that have been performed around the world, released on albums and has been written about in The Wire, Bandcamp Daily, Quietus, Positionen, etc.
