Art in Iceland and the Arts and Culture Magazine Publishers Forum (ACMPF) co-host panel discussions and open conversation about publishing as a medium of communication and a way to create connections Publication is often seen primarily as a way to convey content and ideas but publishers, translators, editors, authors and artists similarly often operate on the border between different languages, cultures, readerships and fields of knowledge Whether published in one or more languages, whether in the language of the country in question or English, such publications can form a bridge between languages and deliver arts and discussion between different linguistic and cultural worlds.
This conversation brings together publishers, authors and artists from the Nordic countries and the Baltic countries to discuss translations in a broad sense, especially what falls outside their traditional definition. It will be discussed how arts and publishing work can open communication channels between languages, cultures and different fields of study and what happens when ideas, works and discussion move from one context to another.
The question is: What does it mean to publish between languages? What is impossible to translate? And how can publishing create a new understanding between small languages?
Becky Forsythe and Hólmar Hólm lead discussions Recent print editions from those participating will be on display during the event After the panel discussion, there will be an opportunity to have an informal chat, get to know each other and discuss collaboration options.
ACMPF is a network of publishers of art and cultural magazines in the Nordic countries and the Baltic countries It is joined by A Shade Colder (Estonia), Artnews.lt and Echo Gone Wrong (Lithuania), EDIT (Finland), Kunstkritikk (Northern States), Art in Iceland and WunderKombinats (Latvia). The event is part of the ACMPF program in Reykjavík, funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers through the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture.
