Preface

  • Threads - Issue 10

It is certainly a matter of joy that Þráði's issues should now finally count by double digits, but the publication has been operating since 2016 and is celebrating its 10th anniversary next year (and there are big plans for that festival in the works). Issue 10 Thraði therefore flows here solemnly from a barn with six new articles from various sources. As often before, it is teachers at the LHÍ music department who sharpen their pens here, but it is also the students of the department, both current and former, who present their perspectives and reviews.

Atli Ingólfsson rides the ford and here, in a semi-poetic style, publishes his statement about what art is and its uniqueness in an academic context. Atli is also the second backbone of our conversation about material and subjects and how it manifests itself in different ways within composition.

Einar Indra then examines the music of one of the main electronic musicians of the last decades, Aphex Twin, with a certain analytical technique that looks mainly at ‘topic’ or memory.

The analysis then continues in the hands of Hróðmar Inga, who directs it to one of the great men of the Russian school, Sergej Prokofjev, and puts it in the context of classical theme and syntax.

Majella Clark, who graduated this spring from the NAIP program, gives us an insight into her final project that deals with innovation in the field of band management.

The bottom then hits Þórhallur Magnússon with reflections on creative artificial intelligence in relation to his research project as well as the current state of artificial intelligence in society.

I thank the editorial board for their good and quality work and hope that readers enjoy the writing.
