Special Project Week in Music

  • 2.October 2025

A special project week in the music department of the Iceland Academy of the Arts took place last week and was exceptionally successful. Students had the opportunity to work with teachers and guest teachers on diverse projects that broaden their horizons in music creation and performance.
The week ended at a harvest festival on Friday where guests got a whiff of what the students had learned this week, with three concerts giving insight into the students' varied and creative work.

During the Brú between two worlds course, the students of the rhythmic department performed Icelandic folk songs in Eastern costume and music by Ásgeir J. Ásgeirsson under the influence of world music. After that, the students showed new media installations and performances across Skipholt under the guidance of Jespers Pedersen.

Then the students in the first year of the music workshop united under the guidance of Óskar Guðjónsson and Steindór Grétar Kristinsson, and the students in the singing course of LHÍ received a course in opera improvisation under the guidance of Sára Wilén from the University of Music in Malmö (Lund University).

It can honestly be said that the special project week was successful with flying colors and gave a clear picture of the creative and lively work that takes place within the music department of the Iceland Academy of the Arts.
