The winners of the 2026 Young Soloists competition have now been selected, but yesterday the final round of the competition ended and four competitors won this year. They will perform as soloists at the Iceland Symphony Orchestra's concert in Eldborg in Harpa on Friday, April 24, 2026.
The jury for the second round of the competition consisted of Sigrún Eðvaldsdóttir, violinist, Birna Hallgrímsdóttir, pianist, Steinunn Vala Pálsdóttir, flutist, Kristín Einarsdóttir Mäntylä, singer, and Tryggvi M. Baldvinsson, artistic advisor to the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
The Young Soloists competition is an important venue for young musicians in Iceland and provides winners with a unique opportunity to take the stage with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and present their talents to a wide audience This year a total of 17 contestants applied and the group of participants was extremely diverse.
Young soloists is a joint project of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and LHÍ, but the winners of the competition have the opportunity to perform a solo performance in Eldborg, Harpa together with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. This time the conductor is the Swiss Baldur Brönnimann, who is the main conductor and artistic director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the University of Music in Galicia, Spain.
