At the Icelandic Music Awards 2026, which were presented in Harpa on March 18, the contribution of the Iceland University of the Arts was prominent, where teachers and former students received numerous awards.

Hanna Dóra Sturludóttir, professional director of the singing route of the LHÍ Department of Music, won the award for singing of the year in the category classics and contemporary music.

Hanna Dóra has been one of our leading singers for years and has had a successful career in operas and concerts around the world. These days she now sings the role of Madame de Croissy in the opera Dialogues des Carmélites by Francis Poulenc we Staatstheater Saarbrücken as well as carrying out professional directors and teaching duties at the department of music of LHÍ.

 

At the Icelandic Music Awards, the school's loyal students also made a name for themselves. Anna Thorvaldsdóttir won an award for song and composition of the year in the category classics and contemporary music for the cello concerto Before we fall, and Áslákur Ingvarsson together Sólveigu Sigurðardóttir, as part of the performing arts group Ode, were chosen performer of the year in the same category.

Benni Hemm Hemm won double awards for song of the year in the party pop music and text of the year for the song One of the flowers, composed in collaboration with Páll Óskar. Then received Crown award for song and composition of the year í hip-hop-class for 10 THOUSAND which he wrote together with Emmsjé Gauta.

Sævar Jóhannsson won an award for album of the year í open category for Quiet Presence and Wolf Fire iron í class film and theatre music won an award for the work Where is Jon?.

The success of this group reflects the strong and diverse work of LHÍ and the creative environment that has been shaped there.
