The offices of the President of Iceland, the Ministry of Education and Children's Affairs, the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Confederation of Industry, the Association for Educational Research, the Foundation - the Association of Managers at the Offices of Education in Municipalities, the University of Akureyri, the University of Iceland, the Icelandic Teachers' Union, the Iceland Academy of Arts, the Center for Education and School Services, the City of Reykjavík, the Association of Icelandic Municipalities and the Association of School Development Enthusiasts collaborate to award annual recognition for outstanding school and leisure activities or other educational reforms. The award is called the Icelandic Education Award.

The aim of the award is to draw the attention of the community to ambitious and quality school and leisure activities and to enhance the path of educational reform The award is given every year and must bear the year of the award is given in four categories, as well as special encouragement to parties who have contributed to outstanding educational reforms.

A. Outstanding school work or educational reform One award is given in this category, to a school or other educational institution, which has contributed to educational reform is considered to excel.

B. Outstanding Teacher One award is given in this category to a teacher who has promoted educational reforms that are considered outstanding.

C. Outstanding Development Project Awards for Outstanding Development Projects are given to projects that meet the highest quality standards of goals, ways, input, evaluation and promotion, have a societal appeal and are useful for promoting education in the country Projects related to school or after-school activities, art education or other work with children and young people and have unmistakable educational and educational value are considered.

D. Outstanding Industrial or Vocational Education One award given to a teacher, curriculum author, school or educational institution for outstanding work, work or contribution to vocational or vocational education.

E. Incentive awards to an individual, group or organization that has contributed to educational reforms are considered outstanding.

Proposals must have been received by June 1 each year.
