Amid the Silence is research on performance and conceptual (art) gestures, performativity of painting and sculptural installation. Reflecting on elements of femininity, power struggles and the exhibition space. An exploration of inner tensions in nuanced social relationships, such as suppression, aggression, and the impact of repression on behaviour. Braided hair is pulled by turnbuckle, the white walls injected by red lead (Pb304) and scratched with extension nails made of steel.
Sunneva Ása Weisshappel, born in 1989, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts from the Iceland University of the Arts in the spring of 2013. Currently, she is pursuing a joint MFA in Fine Arts at Goldsmiths University in London and the Iceland University of the Arts. Sunneva works in a variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, performance, and video art. Through her art, she conducts emotional and psychological combinations, aiming to challenge both herself and the audience. Sunneva's work is a subversive exploration of femininity, intending to reveal its delicate charm and corrosive secrets, by juxtaposing softness and grit, intertwining themes of time, beauty, and aggression through motifs such as hair, steel, latex, and lace.
