Abstraction is the order of the formal cruelty of thought In its most trivial and unsophisticated form it involves pure mutilation: amputating form from sensible matter.
Reza Negarestani, Torture Concret
This installation (Off Focus Protocols) is a continuation of work started in 2017.
In general there are several processes that are present. They are in relation to each other and juxtapose each other. In a sense the theme is the co-existence of these sometimes very different, lineages.
There are remnants of two previous works, one in the form of the concept of scenes and the second in the form of the material investigation and painterly gestures. I am also attempting to shift the emphasis in a broader sense; away from theoretic/conceptual one, to a more methodological one.
This is also my solo show which naturally creates a pressure to cram all things possible (which is possibly happening right now), but I want to think of the meaning of this work in the context of setting the tone for future work and how this art thing could be practiced.
