Einkasýning Clare Aimée opnar fimmtudaginn 10. október kl. 17:00 – 19:00 í Kubbnum, Laugarnesvegi 91. Sýningin er í röð einkasýninga nemenda á 3. ári í myndlist.

The Tiniest Pacific Ocean

On 23.09.2019, a piece of Pacific Ocean was taken from the west coast of North America and brought 7,000 kilometres to be here. During the exhibition you are invited to touch the ocean. This exchange becomes a meaningful part of the work, both visually and on a molecular level. Through touch, you experience a small part of the earth’s most vast aquatic ecosystem. This exchange will be completed when the water is brought back to its home, with your touch, into the Pacific Ocean.

Oceans are in a constant migration, both in natural and artificial ways. Weather patterns and currents simultaneously transfer water from one place to another in an endless cycle. In order to resist the lateral forces on the hull, boats fill their bellies with ocean water. This technique of using “ballast” transfers 10 billion tonnes of water from one ocean to another annually. If they are constantly being mixed, then how are they separate? When we look out into the ocean, how much of the Atlantic are we seeing? How complex is this recipe of oceans and how rapidly is it changing?

Á tímabilinu 4. október - 29. nóvember stendur yfir röð einkasýninga nemenda á 3. ári í myndlist, alls 24 sýningar.
