Semin hefur skrifað fjölda rita og greina um myndlist en einnig starfað sem sýningarstjóri hjá Musée de l'Abbaye Sainte-Croix og Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. Hann hefur skipulagt ýmsar yfirlits- og þematengdar sýningar m.a. á verkum Kurt Schwitters, og L'Empreinte (Imprint), Centre Georges Pompidou í samvinnu við franska heimspekinginn Georges Didi-Huberman. Semin hefur sérstaklega fengist við teikninguna sem miðil í nútíma- og samtímamyndlist.

Semin flytur erindi í Listasafni Reykjavíkur - Hafnarhúsi, fimmtudaginn 27. september kl. 20. Í erindi sínu fjallar hann um þróun skopteikninga frá nútímanum til samtímans með vísun í verk rúmenska listamannsins Dan Perjovschi, sem nýlega opnaði sýningu í Hafnarhúsinu. Rýnt verður í teikningar Marcel Duchamp, sem birtust í tímaritum snemma á ferli hans, en í gegnum allan hans feril sést hversu mikil áhrif þær höfðu á myndhugsun og notkun hans á texta og táknum. Frá teikningum Duchamps má rekja endurtekin stef í verkum samtímalistamanna og teiknimyndasmiða á borð við Glen Baxter, David Shrigley, Jean-Michel Alberola og Dan Perjovschi.

Semin kemur til Íslands á vegum verkefnisins Umræðuþræðir 2012 sem er samstarfsverkefni Listasafns Reykjavíkur, Kynningarmiðstöðvar íslenskrar myndlistar og myndlistardeildar Listaháskóla Íslands. Með verkefninu er lagt upp með að skapa vettvang hérlendis fyrir alþjóðleg tengsl og umræður, en gestir eru virtir sýningastjórar, fræði- og listamenn sem eiga merkan feril að baki á alþjóðlegum vettvangi. Aðal styrktaraðilar verkefnisins eru Bandaríska sendiráðið og Franska sendiráðið á Íslandi.

Art historian Didier Semin will be a special guest of the Department of Fine Arts Friday Sept. 28th. He is the first participant during the fall semester of TALK Series, a collaborative lecture program initiated by Reykjavik Art Museum, the Icelandic Art Center and the Icelandic Academy of the Arts.

Thursday 27th of September, 8 p.m. at Reykjavik Art Museum – Hafnarhus Semin will give a lecture with reference to the work of Rumanian artist Dan Perjovschi, currently on show at Hafnarhus.

The early cartoons of Marcel Duchamp, published at the very beginning of his career (1909 -1910), influenced his way of thinking text and intwining image and text (captions and notes) in his later work, throughout his carrier. The emergence of the cartoon in contemporary art field similar tendencies can be traced from Duchamp to the work of artists such as Glen Baxter, David Shrigley, Jean-Michel Alberola and Dan Perjovschi.

Didier Semin is a professor at École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris since 1998. He has been curator at the Musée de l'Abbaye Sainte-Croix in Sables d'Olonne, then at the Musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris and at the Musée national d'art moderne. He organized numerous monographic and thematic exhibitions, including Kurt Schwitters retrospective and, L'Empreinte (Imprint) at the Centre Georges Pompidou in collaboration with the philosopher Georges Didi-Huberman, He is the editor of a book series devoted to the writing of artists, published by ENSBA.

Under the title TALK Lecture &Visitor Series, Reykjavik Art Museum, Icelandic Art Center and the Icelandic Academy of the Arts are initiating a collaborative visitor program, offering a platform for continual professional-, international encounter to take place in Iceland. Comprising visits by ground-breaking figures in the visual arts, this program initiative will bring to Icelandic art community, as well as to the public at large, the burgeoning ideas and diverse practices that define the terms and shape the dialogue within the international contemporary art scene.
