A word from the Programme Director:
Make it Work
For me, the performing arts is first and foremost about the gathering of people in shared spaces and times. Whatever is in front of us or between us – at its heart – it is more often than not that feeling of sharing it with other people that gives the performing arts a significant part of its power. In many ways, education shares that in common with the performing arts – we learn so much through the gathering of different bodies, voices and perspectives in shared space and time. In the last months, this act of gathering – that many have always taken for granted – has often been difficult at its best and impossible at its worst. How then to continue in the face of such difficulty and impossibility? It is a question with no easy answers, but this week of graduation work-sharings should be understood as a demonstration of this student group’s resiliance, patience and fight in the face of these new and fast-changing set of circumstances. We - the University, the Master’s programme and the students – are clear that whatever comes we will find a way to ‘make it work’. We are clear that making space for art, poetry and the safe gathering of people is vitally important and we will do everything we can to make it possible. Thank you for being with us.
