This exhibition explores the uncomfortable side of female relationships, especially those experienced in girlhood. The themes in the show take inspiration from the book ‘Odd Girl Out’ by Rachel Simmons; these include covert bullying and social alienation.

Based on her own experiences as a teenager in the early 2000s, Sunneva’s works are imbued with a bitter nostalgia. She uses materials such as denim, chains and lace, as well as found objects such as Barbie dolls and fake nails to convey the angst of female adolescence, evoking the subtle hierarchies of friendship circles and the desperate desire to fit in.
