Susana Lourenço Marques gave an open lecture in IUA Laugarnes on Wednesday February 5th 2020, 12.15-13.

On Elvira Leite’s Pedagogy of the streets — images of method, images of freedom.

Pedagogy of the streets was a project of creative expression conceived by professor and painter Elvira Leite, together with the community of Largo de Pena Ventosa, in the city of Porto, unfolded in between 1976 and 1977, after the revolution and when the local housing support program was shut down.

Alongside a relevant photographic documentation of all the activities, the book and the exhibition held in Porto (Pavilhão de Exposições, 2016) and New York (Mishkin Gallery, 2019) show her innovative method and the utopian vision that guided her pedagogical mission, becoming an instrument for relating the house with the street, understanding play as an extension of representation and asserting the social and political role of education through art.
