Réka Szilvay has performed as a soloist and chamber musician all over Europe, Asia, South America and the USA. She appeared as soloist with all major Finnish orchestras as well as renowned international orchestras such as the London Philharmonic, the Mariinsky Orchestra St. Petersburg, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orquestra Nacional do Porto, the Tonkünstler Orchestra Austria, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg in the most prestigious concert halls, including Musikverein Wien, Grosses Festspielhaus Salzburg, Tokyo Suntory Hall, National Concert Hall Taipei, Symphony Hall Birmingham, London Barbican Concert Hall, Kölner Philharmonie and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. As a chamber musician she has performed in Konzerthaus Wien, Carnegie Hall New York, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall London, Cité de la Musique Paris, Megaron Concert Hall Athens and Palais des Beaux-Arts Brussels.

She has worked with many significant conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Fabio Luisi, Neeme Järvi, Sakari Oramo, Adam Fischer, Osmo Vänskä, Andrew Litton, Leif Segerstam, Mikko Franck, Libor Pesek, Hubert Soudant, Markus Stenz, János Fürst, Juha Kangas.

Réka Szilvay appears as soloist and chamber musician at many international music festivals such as Salzburg Festival, Klangbogen Wien, Festival Grafenegg, Haydn Festspiele Eisenstadt, Singapore Arts Festival, Prussia Cove Cornwall, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, Helsinki Festival, Opera Festival Savonlinna, Turku Music Festival, Mikkeli Music Festival, Korsholm Music Festival, David Oistrach Festival.

Among the radio stations, which have broadcast Réka Szilvays performances are the BBC, Radio France, Arte TV France, the Austrian ORF, the Finnish YLE and the Hungarian MRT. Her debut CD “The 7 Seasons” (Warner Records) received enthusiastic reviews and response, and her recital record “The Roaring Twenties” (Alba Records) was similarly praised by the international media.

Born in Helsinki into a musical Hungarian-Austrian family, Réka Szilvay started to play the violin at the age of four under the guidance of her father Géza Szilvay, originator of the Colourstrings method. She entered the Sibelius Academy at 12, studying with professor Tuomas Haapanen. From 1992 to 1998 she studied at the University of Music in Vienna, attending the class of professor Gerhard Schulz (Alban Berg Quartet). She has participated in several master classes with professors Max Rostal, Sándor Végh, Ana Chumachenco and György Kurtág. In 2006 Réka Szilvay was appointed Professor of Violin at the Sibelius Academy Helsinki.
