Rýmd - Spatium

The life of thought is a continuous story, like life itself: one book grows out of another as in the world of political commitment one action leads to another. (Yi-Fu Tuan)

In Rýmd-Spatium, María Sjöfn investigates the topography of man-made environments and nature and their interfering paradoxical systems. In her practice she examines different topics through an analysis of possible implementations in the local environment where and when applicable.

Space can affect how we experience ourselves in the context of our environment. The term habitat may include a reference to a location or a particular geographical area, especially as affected by human activity.

In every moment, we sense and map the environment. This interweaves the concept of space, constantly affecting our perception, with the reality that we influence through interactive behavior in our actions.

María Sjöfn (b.1974, Reykjavik, Iceland) is interested
in the topography of man-made environment and nature and their interfering paradoxical systems.
