----------

Christian Öhberg (1980) was born in Kristinehamn, Sweden. The music has always been a big part of his life. He begun to take guitar-, bass- and drum-lessons in his teenage years and participated in local bands and big bands via the local music school. His strength has always been the skill to play by ear, and the local bands he has played in have always set improvisation and jam at a high priority.

Interest in classical music arrived at about the age of 27 when he started test-composing. Later Christian had the honour of writing a wedding march for his brother and his wife. When he started the work, he felt the gravity of composing as a deadline occurred.

The Wedding march took five months to complete and he noticed during that period, and even after the wedding, the issues surrounding the topic of composition, increased. He felt that a compositional guidance was needed, which led to his studies at  Gotland School of Composition.

Christian began his two year studies within composition at GSC 2010 in Visby. There he had the pleasure to meet, and study with Mattias Svensson Sandell, Henrik Strindberg, Per Mårtensson, Erik Peters, Peter Van Tour, Matthew Peterson and Christoffer Elgh.  At GSC, the interest in singing increased and he later joined the choir of Schola Cantorum. He also had the pleasure of collaborating with NEO Norrbotten.

After graduating from GSC he continued studying  composition. In 2015 he graduated from the Malmö Academy of Music after three years of studies with Rolf Martinsson as well as with Staffan Storm, Olle Sjöberg, Magnus Lindén, Daniel Hjorth, Björn-Tryggve Johansson.

Before moving to Iceland Christian returned to Kristinehamn and concentrated on his voice development. He joined Bro Kammarkör, a mixed choir that performs songs in different styles. His biggest concert-experience with Bro Kammarkör was in Rome in early June of 2016 in connection with the canonization of Stanislaus Papczynski and Elisabeth Hesselblad, when they sang for the Pope.

At the Iceland University of the Arts, Christian studied composition and had the pleasure to meet and become a student of Þuríður Jónsdóttir and Atli Ingólfsson. Theally were the missing link that he needed in his composition education. Also Christian wants to thank the rest of the teachers, and fellow students/musicians.
