    The stone pier stands firmly in the tuff of the oldest part of the island, itselfHome Rock, the symbol of the fast, the eternal Next to it rises the opposite, a temporary wooden building, built for fleeting occupants: a shelter standing on stilts in the harbour, on the site of an ambush of the boats of the past centuries.<\/p>\n

    The building is a study of the spatial quality that resides in the island's structures and cultural heritage; quality that perhaps was never defined as such, but can now in a new context become visible and gain new life By working with the memory of the place in form, choice of materials and structure, the building brings out these spatial possibilities and weaves them into contemporary architecture.<\/p>\n

    The stone pier stands firmly, hewn from palagonite tuff from the oldest part of the island, Heimaklettur, a symbol of permeance, and the eternal. Beside it rises its opposite, a temporary timber structure, built for its transient occupants. A shelter standing on stilts in the harbor, on the site where boats have been hauled ashore for centuries.<\/p>\n

    The building draws attention to the spatial values that can be drawn from the island's structures and cultural heritage. Qualities that may never have been defined as such, yet can become visible in a new context. By working with the memory of the place through form, material choice and structure, the building seeks to reveal these spatial possibilities and bring them into contemporary architecture.<\/p>\n
