    Integration of West African music in Icelandic primary schools<\/h2>\n

     <\/p>\n

    We Icelandic primary school teachers are now facing major and rapid changes, such as increased multiculturalism in the school community. These developments include both challenges and opportunities for teachers to create a new school environment where all students have the opportunity to participate in learning on their own terms and speed.<\/p>\n\"\"\n\"\"\n

     <\/p>\n

    Music education is one of the subjects that can specifically contribute to equal opportunities for children as participation in music does not necessarily require technology or language skills In music education, there is an emphasis on expression, interaction and active listening that can contribute to the formation of relationships and friendships among students.<\/p>\n\"\"\n

    The curriculum, to be presented in the essay, has been shaped in the light of its own musical experience from Guinea in West Africa, where music and dance play an important role in daily communication and cultural expression In the essay, I would like to present the curriculum \u201eAfro improvised\u201d\", which intertwines West African music and can be used in classrooms in Icelandic primary schools<\/p>\n
