Tumi Torfason<\/strong><\/strong>

Tumi Torfason is an Icelandic musician with diverse backgrounds as a performer, arranger and composer. He is a trumpeter from the rhythmic direction and studied jazz instrumentation here at home and in Sweden. All his musical creations, within the walls of the school and outside, have long been at the core of composition for the various groups he leads, from duo to big band. He has taken countless opportunities to break out of the traditional aesthetics of jazz and implemented instruments and influences from various sources, but especially from classical music history. When he moved home from Stockholm, he took the full step and started a master's program in instrumental music composition at the University of the Arts alongside diverse projects in the Icelandic music scene. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

He concludes the master's program here with a 20-minute symphony for the Caput Ensemble entitled \u201eKlasiantan\u201d The idea for the work appeared to him in a dream but there he hoisted a whole bunch of grapes and immediately wondered how that performance could be written for an orchestra When he woke up, he took this dream vision as a clear instruction from the goddess of art, fixed the purchase of a green bunch of grapes, measured it back and forth, ate it as well as did the work from the measurements using the various compositional methods he has adopted throughout his studies. Astute listeners will hear clusters of stars, islands and consonants fail but above all the cluster of berries and one berry after another, both sweet and sour.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
