Hjartar Librarian \u00d3lafur collected bookmarks for a long time and had a large library of Icelandic bookmarks.<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"none\">When I got to know his library of bookmarks, which is preserved at the National Library of Iceland, I felt it was a shame that the labels were not on displayI wanted to give them life outside the archive box My grandfather's bookmark first piqued my interest in ex libris and led me on this fun path This is my attempt to show what I find interesting and beautiful about the bookmarks and their culture.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>\/\/<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">A bookplate, ex libris, is a personal emblem, printed and pasted stampedinside or outside a book's cover. These marks can be mass-produced so the owner can identify their books. They are small, beautiful works of art created either by the owner or hired artists.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">This book explains the bookplate collection of \u00d3lafur F. Hjartar. He accumulated these bookplates over a long period of time while he worked as a librarian. I gained access to the collection at the National Library of Iceland. It seems a shame that the plates were not on display there, and I wanted to give them life beyond the archive box. My grandfather's bookplate first kicked my interest in ex libris and led me down this acceptable path.
