Krist\u00edn Eysteinsd\u00f3ttir, rector of the school, welcomed new students today and addressed:<\/p>\n

\u201eYou are the school's first freshmen who don't pay tuition.\" A true turning point is a matter of high equality and equality for students in the arts to sit at the same table as other college students.<\/strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n

Krist\u00edna Eysteinsd\u00f3ttir's address to new students can be read in its entirety below.<\/p>\n

\u00de\u00f3ra Einarsd\u00f3ttir, assistant rector of studies and teaching, introduced the students to the subject director, the dean of the department, together with the program of the freshman week.<\/p>\n

Traditionally, Hollnemi inspires freshmen and this year it was Andrean Sigurgeirsson,<\/strong> dancer and choreographer He graduated from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in contemporary dance.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Dear freshmen.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Welcome to the Iceland University of the Arts.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It's a historic moment. You're the school's first freshmen who don't pay tuition. A true turning point, as it's a matter of great equality and equality that students in the arts sit at the same table as other university students.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It is unique to stand here and welcome new students, to feel this electrifying tension that comes with a new beginning.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I believe that studying at the Iceland University of the Arts is one of the most important projects in the field of culture in the country, here the future is shaped.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

When I address you dear freshmen, I would like to focus my attention on the power of art Art is an inexhaustible resource Namely, it is the creativity itself in question and it lives within you and we in this school are here to give you context, conversation, space and tools to activate it.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As students at this school, you will find out how art can transform emotions, ideas and experiences.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Art is a way of understanding and interpreting the world It allows us to express what has not been said and see what has not been seen It creates new thinking and new perspectives.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

But it will require a lot from you because art flourishes when we dare to ask questions and explore unknown territories.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Embrace the search, embrace experiments and embrace mistakes because there you will grow. Be open to criticism and conversation, be humble, searching and brave.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Don't forget that asking questions is much more important than having answers. Dare to ask yourself, others and the world questions.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

We live in an ever-changing world, and that's where the role of art is possibly more important than ever.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I encourage you to be open and enjoy the search itself, what happens along the way is so much more important than anything else because that is where development takes place and where you take shape as artists.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Art possesses the power to be able to have a lasting impact on the worldYou as artists can have a lasting impact on the world.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Dear students,<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I encourage you to connect, connect with yourself and others, to share your experiences and lift each other up when the going gets tough Together we get so much further than we do alone Let you listen and stay Let you try different things Look for your voice, your passion, your perspective and have the courage to share it with us and the world.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The winter ahead is full of opportunities for collaboration, innovation and growth. Take advantage of everything this school can offer you, workshops, lectures, exhibitions and events.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The University of the Arts is a society, we want to be a driving force that expands reality and we believe that creative thinking is a prerequisite for progress. Remember that the Iceland University of the Arts is a place where imagination has no limits.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Art is research, it is a survey that challenges you to explore the world and yourself in a new and transformative way. We are here to activate and train your skills, ingenuity and knowledge with an emphasis on innovation, independence, progressiveness and professionalism.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In order for this to be possible, the school's facilities must be excellent, we will therefore row all years to bring the University of the Arts under one roof, and it is planned that a competition for the building of the new University of the Arts in the Customs House at Tryggvagatu will open in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Don't be afraid to take risks, mistakes are an essential part of the creative process, they can lead to rebirth and deep revolutions. Remember that every artist has faced challenges and doubts, what matters is how you respond to them<\/p>\n

Ahead is a wonderful journey where you will get to know the amazing possibilities and power of art.<\/p>\n
