Dear students,
\nWelcome to the Iceland University of the Arts.<\/p>\n

It is an extremely happy turning point to celebrate the new school year for the first time as rector at the schoolI believe that studying at the Iceland University of the Arts is one of the most important projects in the field of culture in the country In this school, the future of culture and art is shaped.<\/p>\n

The University of the Arts is a melting pot for progressive thinking, it is a driving force for innovation and research that is directly delivered to society in the form of works, conversation and transformative ideas.\n<\/p>\n

Creative thinking and its cultivation are key factors when it comes to the main challenges of the 21st century, and you, dear students, play a big role in that.<\/p>\n

Our goals in this job should primarily be about you, dear students: to activate and train your skills, ingenuity and knowledge with an emphasis on innovation, independence, progressiveness and professionalism.\n<\/p>\n

The University of the Arts should be a place where you get space and time to cultivate your qualities and uniqueness under the guidance of excellent professionals, a place where you can test yourself, experiment, ask questions, search and, most importantly, find new ways.<\/p>\n

For this to be possible, the school's facilities must be excellent, we therefore row all years to bring the University of the Arts under one roof. A great milestone victory was won in the days when it was announced that funding was now guaranteed so that competition could begin for the development of the University of the Arts in the Customs House at Tryggvagatu.\n<\/p>\n

Dear students,<\/p>\n

I encourage you to enjoy the journey ahead.<\/p>\n

Allow yourself to search because the search itself is one of the most important aspects of creation. Allow yourself to go through the whole forest to find one tree.<\/p>\n

Look for the untold stories, the unexpected perspectives, roll over stones, try to shed light on the unexpected, to put things in a different context.<\/p>\n

Look for humanity, beauty, cruelty and goodness.<\/p>\n

Be curious, about everything in human existence.<\/p>\n

Allow yourself to make mistakes because when you look back, you will see that mistakes are a much more important lesson than success.<\/p>\n

Allow yourself to have an opinion and allow yourself to change your mind. Do it often.<\/p>\n

\n

It is often said that we should know what we want It is easy It is much more exciting to ask: What are we afraid of? If we dare to ask that question honestly and humbly then we travel into unexplored territory It is precisely where the discovery is made.<\/p>\n

\n

Step into your courage. Find your passion and go right up to it, dare to face it.<\/p>\n

Be brave in subjects, approaches and methodologies It is in the place where you find the specific.<\/p>\n

\n

And it is precisely the role of this school to uncover the specific that resides in you. Unleashing it. To activate it so that you can provide the rest of us with a new perspective on our own existence.
\nAnd there, precisely therein lies the role of art. When it manages to shed new light on our existence and put it in a new context.<\/p>\n

Art allows us to witness each other, and when we witness each other, a connection is created In this connection, the essence and purpose of art are revealed.<\/p>\n

Art is vital.<\/p>\n

Art allows us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.<\/p>\n

Art is not only a mirror of society, but also a hammer to shape it.<\/p>\n

Art helps us not to die from reality.<\/p>\n

Director Antonin Artaud spoke of artists being athletes of the heart.<\/p>\n

Philosopher Baudrillard said that the role of art is to uncover what is hidden, to bring down the tents of reality.<\/p>\n

Dear students,<\/p>\n

Train your heart and let the curtains fall. Enjoy being students at the Iceland University of the Arts.<\/p>\n
