The project was undertaken quickly and efficiently to work on the website after the equality representative's consultation forum was awarded a grant University cooperation in mid-February. Time was short as Equality Days are this week and the website is a big part of providing information about them.

At the meeting of the above consultation forum a year ago, which consists of equality representatives from all the country's universities, the idea came up to have a website designed for Equality Days. Sæunn Gísladóttir, an employee of the Equality Council of the University of Akureyri, led the work on an application to the University Partnership to have a website built and maintained of this kind. Representatives of all the universities joined forces in an application prepared across the schools and the Equality Days steering committee requested meetings and offers from several websites. Last January, the consultation forum received the happy news that a grant of 3.8 million had been received for the project.

What are Equality Days?

Equality Days are held annually in the country's universities, and that tradition has been going on since 2009. It is important to make people aware of diverse issues in terms of equality, and in recent years, for example, the organizers of Equality Days have focused on the backlash in the queer community, the status of immigrants in Iceland and violence in sports and music studies to name a few. Events are open to everyone and are also often streamed.

Until now, Equality Days events have been streamed on Facebook, all events have been advertised there and all content shared there or on Instagram. It is a certain challenge to have Equality Days on Facebook where not everyone uses that medium and in particular the number of university students who use that platform on a daily basis has decreased.

The website is an important step for Equality Days that have become established

Representatives of the consultation forum believed that since Equality Days have established itself and grown every year, there is an opportunity to improve the framework by having the website built www. jafnrettisdagar.is. The website would be a tool in the dissemination of content, if there is support for social debate in critical times of human rights There would be the possibility to view the program in an accessible way both on a computer and on a smartphone.

The group also looked to the website Nordic Talks, where events all over the Nordic countries are recorded and turned into a podcast so that they can live on and people enjoy them for a long time to come. There is extremely valuable content that has been recorded on Equality Days and would be a great benefit in more people being able to continue to enjoy it.

The website went live after the energetic work of Netheim, the Equality Days steering group and the Equality Days project manager. There, equality days are now in the foreground and later it will be possible to tick the events that are of interest and thus design your own program on it and access podcasts with recordings of previous Equality Days, as well as further education on equality issues.

The website is to be used year-round, although most visits are expected to be around Equality Days. It will be used to share educational material on equality, discussions about challenges related to the current society, and content will be added in the coming months to keep it up.

Design the website with accessibility in mind from start to finish

The website is owned by all universities in the country and will be maintained by the Equality Days steering group, the Equality Days project manager and Netheim.

The website is designed with accessibility in mind from start to finish. It will be possible to measure the number of visits to the website and the number of people listening to recordings and podcasts, thus monitoring how the content is communicated to the public and whether the website needs to be adapted to others/changing needs at any given time.

Everyone is welcome to Equality Days.

The country's universities received funding from Samstarfti háskóli for a website to share content on equality issues

[115
["post-13611","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-frettir
["GET
