Growthscape

artist: Emil Gunnarsson, 2nd year MA Fine Art student

What did the tree learn from the ground to be able to talk with the sky?

Roots weave unseen connections, drawing strength from the stories they hold and the shared breath of the forest. They nourish the present while shaping the journey ahead.

Step into the sapstream and explore where the roots grow most freely, where they hold energy and invite you in.

Emil Gunnarsson (b. 1998) studied at Maryland Institute College of Art and received his BA degree in Sculpture and Environmental Arts from Glasgow School of Art in 2023. Through interactive sculptural installations and performances he encourages self-contemplation, corporeal awareness, and reflection on the interplay between natural and social environments.

Thank you to Ólafur Gíslason, Oddur Wilhelm Gunnarsson, Steinþór Hannes Gissurarson, Elliðaárstöð and Henrik Koppen for help and support for this project.
