Steven completed a BA in sociology from the University of Michigan, a diploma in filmmaking from the Academy of Film and Television (FAMU) in Prague, and an MFA in film directing from the Columbia University School of the Arts. He has established himself as a recognized professional in screenwriting and film consulting. Steven has worked as a consultant at the Icelandic Film Centre since 2013, and earlier worked as a screenwriter and script consultant for various film producers since 2007. In addition, Steven has written and directed five short films, which have been screened at the Palm Springs Short Film Festival and the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, among others.
Steven has extensive teaching experience in both screenwriting and directing and has organized and taught in a variety of filmmaking workshops both in Iceland and abroad, for students and professionals alike, and has been a leading voice in efforts to bring university-level film education to Iceland. As part of these efforts, he has served on steering groups for both film curriculum development at the university level and for the establishment of a film department at the Iceland University of the Arts.
