Sigurður Atli graduated from the fine arts department of the Iceland University of the Arts in 2011. He received a grant from the French Embassy in Iceland to pursue master studies in fine art at École Superieure d’Art et de Design Marseille-Méditerranée and graduated with an MFA degree cum laude in 2013. He has participated in a number of exhibitions around Europe and had solo exhibitions in Prague, Milano, Hamburg, Leipzig, Reykjavík and Seyðisfjörður. In 2015 Sigurður Atli founded the artist collaborative Print & Friends with Leifur Ýmir Eyjólfsson. They have held a number of workshops and exhibitions in museums and galleries in Reykjavík, New York and Athens. Print & Friends Verlag publishes artist books by visual artists. Sigurður Atli has been teaching at Iceland University of the Arts since 2016.

The work of Sigurður Atli draws up manifestations of the creative process in daily events and seemingly random gestures. He examines the connection of language and images in cultural context and how it influences meaning. Sigurður Atli has adopted various printmaking techniques in his practice as well as working with drawing, painting, sculpture and photography along with installation and performance.
