LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR THE MASTER‘S PROGRAMME IN ARTS EDUCTION 
 
At the end of the study programme at the Department of Arts Education the student will have acquired knowledge in the field of arts education. 
 
This means that the student has achieved the following objectives: 
 
 
KNOWLEDGE
 
Knowledge and understanding
 
At the end of the study programme the student is expected to know and understand:
 
       •    Core theories and concepts in the field of pedagogy.  
The main methods and approaches in the field of art education and visual arts communication.
The role of the national curriculum and its value in designing and organizing educational programmes.
The issues that arise in the preparation and execution of art education.
Teachers’ ethics code and the value of professionalism in the field of education.
Accepted research methods in the area of art education.
 
 
COMPETENCE /SKILLS
 
Practical competence 
 
At the end of the course the student is expected to demonstrate competence in the following areas:
 
Utilizing and applying the technology and know-how demanded of educators in the field.
Utilizing and applying personal competence to the creation, development and application of ideas in teaching and communication.
Developing lesson and assignment plans as appropriate to each situation. 
Directing different groups in teaching and art related projects.
Taking the initiative to establish a dialogue between different fields in the operation of schools.
Making independent, professional decisions based on pedagogical arguments.
Employing knowledge, understanding and problem-solving skills in relation to teaching and communicating.
 
Academic competence 
 
By the end of the study programme the student is expected to possess the competence to:
 
Transfer his/her professional skills to a pedagogical context.
Provide academic arguments to rationalize his/her professional approach. 
Record and analyze results, projects or events in the appropriate manner, which, in turn will result in greater literacy and understanding of research in the field of art pedagogy .
Use professional criteria to assess the results of academic studies.
Collect, analyze and assess sources during a process of research and artistic creation.
 
 
APTITUDE
 
Aptitude in transmission and communication
 
By the end of the study programme the student is expected to possess the aptitude to:
 
Transmit his/her knowledge, ideas and know-how in the field of art education to different groups under diverse circumstances.
Take the initiative on teaching and artistic projects, provide direction and assume responsibility for the work of individuals and groups.
Participate actively in collaboration.
 
Academic aptitude
 
By the end of the study programme the student is expected to possess the aptitude to:
 
Use professional criteria to reflect on and assess his/her performance and apply to his/her personal development and professional conduct.
Use professional criteria to assess and analyze the results of his/her own studies as well as those of others.
Record results, projects or events in an appropriate manner.
Apply the working methods and study skills required by further research-related studies at the master’s or doctoral levels.
