Arna Mathiesen is an architect with long and varied experience the field of architecture. She has designed buildings of various scales, worked on urban plans, furniture and theoretical installations, and has repeatedly been involved in all the phases of the design process, from conception to a finished product. Arna has participated in numerous exhibitions and competitions.
Arna has been a jury-member for architecture competitions, and she has given lectures in different contexts and countries. She has tutored and been an external examiner for the Oslo School of Architecture (AHO) and has been responsible for a design studio for urban studies at the Agricultural University of Iceland. She has done research in the field and conceptualized the book 'Scarcity in Excess – The Built Environment and the Economic Crisis in Iceland' published by Actar 2014, for which she was the editor-in-chief.
Arna received a MArch degree in architecture from Princeton University in 1996, after a year of studying philosophy at the University of Iceland, receiving a BA in Architecture from Kingston University in London and a year-long study at the AHO.
Together with Kjersti Hembre, Arna founded the architectural firm April Architects in 2003. Their winning project in Europan7 launched April on a professionally stimulating trajectory in Norway. The firm has of lately expanded and is now working on projects both in Iceland and in Norway.
