The aim of the Programme is to produce well trained, creative and curious dance artists who approach their subject with an inquiring mind and are ready to engage with work in the diverse and ever changing world of contemporary dance.

The first year opens up a broad understanding of movement and ideas about the body’s possibilities for movement. The focus is on providing an insight into the theories, premises, concepts and methods that form the foundation for further study.

The second year continues to build up and deepen students’ dance technique in an artistic context with an increased emphasis on students’ creative powers. The dancers’ possibilities for expression grow and their stamina increases. Students also work on relating the dance form to other artistic disciplines and new media. They receive training in applying the profession’s main analytical tools and utilising that understanding in the presentation of projects. They also work on the further integration of theory, technique and artistic work.

The third year is the year of independence and processing. Here, students engage with projects that test their skill in creative and theoretical working methods, understanding and overview. In the autumn semester, students choose an internship or exchange study that supports their development within their own sphere of interest. In the spring semester, students are given increased independence and responsibility in the artistic process and there is further emphasis on their critical vision of their own working procedures and methods. At the end of the year, students must be able to engage in research related to the work of the dancer.

Students receive an insight into dancers’ work environment by: acquiring performance experience at the Student Theatre, working with professionals in the field, creating a complete performance, being responsible for the artistic process and processing public criticism. The year is completed with a formal graduation performance.
