Course title in Icelandic: Tónlist og heilabilun

Music and Dementia’ introduces the essential skills, knowledge, values and attitudes for becoming a competent workshop practitioner in the specific context of working with people with dementia and their careers in creative music workshops. Through various training sessions in the conservatoire (internal) and in care settings for people with dementia (external), participants of this module will be prepared to function as informed improvising musicians who collaborate effectively with other musicians and interact adequately with other participants, individually and as a group. Furthermore students will be equipped with reflective skills to continue to develop themselves further into experienced Music and Dementia practitioners.

The ‘Music and Dementia’ module is offered as an elective for students of all study routes of the Master of Music at the Iceland Academy of the Arts.

Preliminary requirements: BA-degree or a comparable

Should students decide to take a course without ECTS the teacher does not provide feedback for the students work. Difference in the price of course is therefore based on the teachers´ workload.  Courses taken without ECTS can. Be registered, without ECTS, on the students´ transcript of records.
