Á Hugarflugi Listaháskóla Íslands í febrúar 2021 fjölluðu nemendur, kennarar og annað listafólk, hönnuðir, arkitektar og fræðafólk, um vendipunktinn sem heimurinn stóð þá á. Heimsfaraldur, hamfarahlýnun og réttindabarátta voru meðal umfjöllunarefna á vikulangri fjarráðstefnu með yfirskriftinni Vendipunktur – Turning Point.
Einu og hálfu ári síðar stöndum við enn á vendipunkti fyrri áskorana en einnig stríðshörmunga í Evrópu með innrás Rússa í Úkraínu. Þetta eru sannarlega víðsjárverðir tímar en við leitums tvið að greina stöðuna og hvað framtíð ber í skauti sér. Það sem blasir við er hin brýna nauðsyn á að hlúa að samfélögum okkar, næra grunngildin sem skipta mestu máli í lífi heildarinnar og hvers einstaklings. Hvernig tryggjum við best samstöðu gegn ofríki og fyrir friði og réttlæti? Hver eru þau gildi, hvernig höldum við áfram, saman, inn í framtíðina sem við vitum ekki hver er; náttúran og tegundirnar sem saman skapa vistkerfið sem við lifum í? Hvernig sköpum við saman, hvernig dreymum við saman, heim sem heldur utan um alla?
Á Hugarflugi Listaháskóla Íslands 2022 viljum við fjalla um hvernig hver manneskjan er hluti af heild, stundum mörgum heildum. Hvernig hver upplifun og gjörð er bundin stærra samhengi. Hvernig við flæðum, í stað þess að standa föst; hvernig við tengjumst sem heild, frekar en að standa ein; hvernig við horfumst í augu við þann möguleika að ekkert eitt okkar geti reitt fram lausn, heldur liggi hún í samtakamættinum, nú og til framtíðar.
Enginn er eyland (e. Collective Care) er þema Hugarflugs 2022.

At the last Hugarflug conference in February 2021, students, teachers and practicing artists, designers, architects and scholars reflected on the various turning points the world was up against. Topics such as the pandemic, climate crisis and actions against racial discrimination were presented during a week-long online conference under the heading of Vendipunktur – Turning Point.
A year and a half later we are still at a turning point of these same challenges, in addition to a disastrous war in Europ, inflicted by Russia´s invasion into Ukraine. These are unstable times, but we seek to understand what lies ahead. We aare faced with the urgent need to take care of our communities and the environment, to nurture the fundamental values that best serve society as a whole as well as each individual. How do we best secure solidarity against tyranny and for peace and justice? What are those values? Where do we go from here – together as a collective whole including nature and the species that constitute our ecosystem – towards an inclusive world?
At Hugarflug 2022 we would like to reflect on how each person belongs to one or more collective wholes. How each experience and action relates to a larger context. How we constantly flow and shift instead of standing still. How we seek to embrace rather than stand alone. How we are faced with the possibility that no single individual will ever be capable of bringing forth a solution, but instead, that the solution depends on the power of the collective, now and for the future ahead. In Iceland, we have a saying: “No one is an island” (“Enginn er eyland”), which informs the theme of Hugarflug 2022: Collective Care.
We encourage participants to use diverse methods, media, and approaches to find the appropiate form for their contributions. As an example, a contribution could take on a material or visual form (exhibition, installation, graphic dissemination), a staged form (performance, intervention), or a verbal form (paper presentation, Pecha Kucha, auto-interview, panel discussion, seminar, workshop etc.). Apart from word-based presentations we will only accept fully developed contributions containing video, audio, photography, or other forms of dissemination of artistic research, artistic practice and design.
