Philippa Brown
Coming Into the Picture; Art Therapy Process and Practice ArtLab

Hún er nú deildarstjóri meistaranáms í listmeðferð við University of Hertfordshire ásamt því að vera fulltrúi skólans í ECArTE (The European Consortium of Arts Therapies in Training and Education).

On Wednesday May the 11th at 12:15 Philippa Brown will explore the expressive qualites of art therapy and its healing potential in an open lecture at the Department of Arts Education. Room 54, Department of Arts Education, Laugarnesvegi 91, 2nd floor.

Art Therapy benefits those in a vulnerable state of mind because it offers a unique expressive, creative and psychological language that holds symbolic and narrative value. This lecture will consider how, within the context of a therapeutic relationship, a spontaneous art making process, and the images that emerge, are central to the therapeutic encounter. I will discuss how the image in art therapy is both seen and thought about differently to art that is made for public consumption, the personal nature of the art therapeutic process and how meaning unfolds in a picture to reveal significant feeling and experience for the client.
The lecture will also include information on the development of Art Therapy as a health care profession in the UK and Internationally.

Philippa Brown has been an art therapist for over 30 year, practising mainly in adult mental health.
