The Iceland Academy of the Arts welcomes you to the fashion show of the 2nd year students of fashion design in collaboration with the Icelandic Red Cross.
Morphing Castaways emphasises the creation of new clothing from unsellable second hand garments using knowledge and methodology from fashion design. The focus is on fashion in Iceland in relation to sustainability.

If no changes will be made in today's consumerist societies, particularly in the field of textile production, this will have serious consequences on the entire planet and mankind itself. Now, for the second time, the project Morphing Castaways is being developed by the 2nd year students in the Department of Fashion Design at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. The project was a great success last year, making clear that recycling will continue to play an essential role in the future.

Excessive consumerism and the short durability of cheap textiles makes the fashion- and textile industry very bad for the environment. This can be changed by giving old clothes and fabrics a new purpose in a creative way. The project Morphing Castaways is a response to western consumer-society in collaboration with The Icelandic Red Cross. The project aims to bring the attention of students to sustainability. During the course the students discuss consumption behaviour in our society in the context of conventional values, industry and the economy.

The project Morphing Castaways II is presented in two parts. The first part is the fashion show on the 16th of March and the other part is an exhibition at Desing March.
