Between the 16th-18th of November, the Performing Arts department will hold a three-day symposium around REYKJAVÍK DANCE FESTIVAL & LÓKAL INTERNATIONAL PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL 2022 packed with workshops, talks and events in relation to festivals. Two of the symposiums will be open to all staff and students of the IUA and general public.  

On Thursday November 17th the Department of Performing Arts at IUA in collaboration with Reykjavík Dance Festival will host a symposium with the award-winning Italian artist Chiara Bersani. Bersani will talk about her research and methods as an author and performer that revolve around the idea of the "Political Body". The symposium takes place in the Black Box Theater (L223) at IUA in Laugarnesvegur 91 and is open to the public.

On Friday the 18th of November the Department of Performing Arts at IUA in collaboration with Reykjavík Dance Festival will host a symposium about the possibilities and powers of festivals.   

During the discussion panel we will hear from the following speakers:   

  • Vigdís Jakobsdóttir, Artistic Director of Reykjavík Arts Festival   
  • María Rut Reynisdóttir, Head of the cultural office of Reykjavíkurborg   
  • Ásgerður Gunnarsdóttir and Alexander Roberts, former Artistic Directors of Reykjavík Dance Festival  
  • Jóhanna Ásgeirsdóttir, Artistic Director of Art without Borders   
  • Karl Taylor, Associate Producer for Take Me Somewhere Festival in Glasgow, Scotland
