Bjarki Bragason has been appointed to the position of head of department of Fine Art.
 
Bjarki completed a BA degree in fine art from the IUA in 2006, studies at UdK-Berlin were a part of that degree, he then received an MFA degree in art from the California Institute of the Arts, CalArts in Los Angeles in 2010. Bjarki has been very active in all areas of fine arts: in exhibitions, where he has held ten solo exhibitions and over forty group exhibitions in Iceland and abroad, as well as working in teaching, research, management and for several committees in the professional field. 
 
Bjarki has good overall knowledge of the university's operations. He started teaching at the IUA in 2007 as a part-time teacher and has taught a number of courses across the university since. He was hired in a full time position as a university teacher and programme director at the Fine Art department in 2016, in a temporary replacement as programme director of the MA program in Fine Art 2020-2021 and in a temporary replacement as Head of Fine Art Department since August 2021. In addition, Bjarki taught for several years at the Reykjavik School of Visual Art where he also worked as a project manager for the establishment of the Visual Arts Department and served as chairman of the school's board. Bjarki has taught and given lectures at several universities abroad.
 
In his work and research, Bjarki often focuses on and workes with time related matter, how the collision of geological and human time manifests itself in buildings, places and nature.
