Handicrafts have changed from being considered a vital force of life to being a hobby in the modern era. But has this caused some stagnation in their development? This project examines the possible development of pattern making with the help of artificial intelligence and algorithms. Patterns from historical Icelandic pattern books are streamed through a computer programme to mould together the past and the future. The results raise questions about the development of handicrafts and the impact of technology on pattern making. The generated patterns are presented in the form of a book that can be seen as a pattern book of the future and are also accessible on a website. A group of people experimented with the patterns in various media to explore their usability.
