Hugarflug February 8th - 9th 2018

Hugarflug 2018 presented a conference platform on art and design research that is truly representative of the staff and students of the Iceland Academy of the Arts, as well their wider art and design networks. This cross-disciplinary art and design conference at IAA has been committed to actively encouraging and supporting the staff and students of the academy, as well as those working in the field, to turn up, to share their questions, knowledge and practices, and entangle themselves in the work of others. The conference, as such, bore the fruits of that commitment – supporting this diversity of voices to enter into an intersectional dialogue with each other.

Simply put, through a combination of talks, panels, reading groups and performances, Hugarflug 2018 provided an intersectional platform designed to support participants to share questions, practices and research – to discover, listen and learn from each other – on the terms of their work and research.

Additionally, the cross-disciplinary Hugarflug committee for 2018 put together a selection of commissioned contributions for this year’s conference that – in different ways – sought to further extend the year 2018's focus on intersectionality by giving platforms to bodies, voices and perspectives that otherwise often remain beyond the reach and attention of the current activities of the Academy.

The conference took place at the IAA Fine Art and Arts Education departments in Laugarnesvegur 91, 104 Reykjavik.
